C/C + Descriptive Groups...

1.  Journal:   How do you decide what to write about?  What makes you pick a topic?  For

example, with the C/C essay, how will you make your decision?

2. C/C notes and ideas… Briefly… Thesis… Grounds…. Whereas…  Essay plan?

Burger King has Fresh Ingredients, Good Service, and Healthy Options, whereas McDonalds has Frozen ingredients, poor service, and fatty foods.

1.  Journal:

Crouching Tiger hidden dragon inn fight scene poem, descriptive essay… Journal?  How is this a descriptive essay? How is this a poem?  How is this a performance?  Or, just describe what you see.

2.       What’s missing from our essays… The idea of performance…. We’re not anonymous.

1.  What are the most common grammatical errors that everyone makes?  Name them and give an example of each mistake.  (Provide an example on the board, call on others to fix)

2.  Class narrative...  (I write it, and you write it.)

3.  Descriptive Essay definitions and planning.... Think about other desc. essays and make a list of what they are/do in table groups... (My essay as planning example)

4.  Homework....  Return to class with a plan for your descriptive essay and be ready to "tell your story."

Why, at the end of the essay, does Orwell include the humorous story about the person who "clung to the bars of hiss cage..."

How does Orwell use description to make us feel?  Provide one example from the text and explain how that description works...

D.  What's understatement and how does it work in this essay?

Check out these essays.  Write 5 questions about two of the essays using thinking skills.  Make sure that each question uses a different thinking skill and make sure you bring the questions to class.
